Williams,
who retired
as Dean of
Business and
Social
Science at
Long Beach
City
College,
with
experience
as an
educator
with over 36
years of
experience
in higher
education,
is running
for
re-election
to the Long
Beach
Unified
School
Board's 2nd
District
seat for a
third term.
He has been
endorsed by
a number of
elected
officials
and
community
members, to
include his
fellow board
members,
trustees of
the L.B.
Community
College
District,
members of
the L.B.
City
Council,
former mayor
Beverly
O'Neal, Tom
Clark, Ernie Kell and
Eunice Sato.
Other

Knabe,
former Gov.
George
Deukmejian,
State Sen.
Roderick
Wright and
other
elected
officials,
teachers and
community

Dr. Williams
attended
California
State
University,
Long Beach
where he
earned B.A.
(1972), and
M.B.A.
(1975),
degrees in
Business
Administration
with
emphases in
management
and manpower
management.
He also
graduated
from Los
Angeles
Harbor
Community
College
(1970) with
an A.A.
degree in
Secretarial
Science.
Dr. Williams
went on to
receive his
doctorate
degree in
Education
Administration
(1985), from
Claremont
Graduate
University,
and speaks
fondly of
his
experiences
with Peter
F. Drucker
and Dr.
Delores
Cross, who
served as
members of
his Orals
Committee.
Dr. Williams
is a product
of San
Pedro,
California
where he
attended
elementary
through high
school.
Dr.
Williams'
immediate
goals for
the district
include:
1) Improving
graduation
rates.
2) Greater
parental
participation
in our
schools.
3)
Reduction in
"truancy
rates".
4)
Completing
school
construction
projects.
5)
Supporting
the efforts
of the Nt.
Long Beach
Initiative
to build a
stronger and
sustaining
community
educational
environment
in north
Long Beach.
Dr. Williams
is a firm
believer in
continuing
the
district's
push towards
excellence,
as evidenced
by the
receipt of
the Eli
Broad award,
other
numerous
awards and
recognition,
to include
McKensie and
Company in
recognizing
the Long
Beach
Unified
School
District as
one of the
top 20 urban
school
districts in
the world
.
